4-D Distributed Modeling and Visualization

Executive Summary

We are developing methodologies and systems required for the design and analysis of mobile augmented reality systems, which incorporate fast, robust, automatic, and accurate modeling of visual data, leading to enhanced and improved tools and techniques, as well as compact representations for time-space visualization of real world scenery.

The fundamental goal of the project is to implement dynamic time-critical modeling and visualization systems under uncertainty, using augmented reality and 4D dynamic models of the environment. Combine all manner of models, images, video, and data in a coherent visualization to support improved data understanding, information extraction, and dynamic scene change detection and analysis. Making the dynamic geospatial registration and visualization a reality requires innovative research in data fusion, modeling, motion tracking and visualization technologies. To achieve this revolutionary step toward enhanced data understanding and visualization, a team of researchers has been assembled at the University of California at Berkeley, the Georgia Tech, the University of Southern California, the University of California at Santa Cruz, and the Syracuse University through innovative research in the following main areas:

·        4D model construction and updating

·        Geo-Registration and Tracking

·        Visualization System/Architecture

·        Uncertainty Evaluation & Visualization

The MURI program can provide a broad range of solutions for critical technologies of next generation visualization system.
